In our work with large organizations we’ve realized that many people don't understand how to truly own their careers. Others feel that this ownership is more of a burden than an opportunity. Careers are seen as the result of happenstance, and perhaps a few choices made earlyon. Our combined corporate experiences provided the seed for this new enterprise, which we named Rizers. Rizers are people who own their careers, who are energized by taking on new assignments while staying focused on their values, interests, and aptitudes. Rizers are rising stars whether they’re moving up, moving sideways into new and interesting challenges, or taking an entirely different path in an effort to contribute something more to the world. We see evidence all around us that the world of work is changing. Becoming more digital. More global. More virtual. And given our increasing longevity, and the human desire to remain fulfilled, work will be a part of our lives for much longer — for just as the world of work looks very different in this 21st century, so too does the whole concept of retirement. Work will continue to morph as our economic situation and personal lives change over the journey that is our entire life. We may participate in the world of work as an employee, as a consultant or a contract worker, in full-time and part-time postions – and we’ll likely have a stint in each of these capacities at some point, as the direction and pace of our career progresses over time. If you have read this far, you are no doubt a Rizer. You want to plan and manage your own career, finding ways to add value to your team or current employer, or to a completely different team that is more closely aligned with your purpose. You aren’t waiting for your organization to boost you in the direction you want to go – you’re pushing yourself. Our goal to is enable Rizers to manage their careers in full awareness of their options. And to help find ways for you to own it!
